Aldeburgh Lookout Residency, August 2024
As a resident of the Aldeburgh Beach Lookout (Suffolk, UK) I worked on an experimental film reacting to both the natural landscape and the town's history and a maritime nexus. Interested in reflecting upon the coast as a liminal point of departure and return, I worked with 16mm photo-chemical film, capturing the town, making phytograms to directly print onto the celluloid using the beach’s flora & fauna, and developed footage using non-toxic processes incorporating both local beer and the seawater itself.
The entire architecture of the historic lookout tower was activated during the exhibition with a 360 degree, 3 channel projection both inside and around the sttructure.
The films were accompanied by a suite of cyanotype prints, in part toned with breakfast tea.
